What Style of Yoga Is Right for You?

A Gentle Guide to Finding Your Flow

ree

Stepping into the world of yoga can feel like entering a whole new language. Vinyasa, Hatha, Flow, Yin, Restorative ~ what do they all mean? And how do you know which one is right for you?

The truth is, there’s no 'one-size-fits-all' when it comes to yoga. Your body, energy levels and emotional needs change daily ~ and your yoga practice can shift with you. Whether you're craving movement or stillness, strength or softness, there's a style to meet you where you're at.

Here’s a simple guide to help you explore the different flavours of yoga and find the one (or few!) that best support you right now:

🌿 Mellow Flow – For Gentle Movement & Mindful Breath

Best for: Those wanting a slow, steady practice that builds strength and calm without rushing.

What it’s like: Mellow Flow blends the intentional movement of Vinyasa with the spaciousness and grounding of Hatha. You’ll move mindfully from pose to pose, but at a pace that allows you to connect with your breath, tune into your body & feel supported in each shape. Think of it as a moving meditation ~ fluid, but never frantic. A beautiful practice to return to again and again, especially when you’re craving presence & peace.

🌙 Yin Yoga – For Deep Release & Stillness

Best for: Releasing tension, slowing down or supporting emotional healing.

What it’s like: In Yin, poses are held passively for 3–5 minutes, targeting the deeper connective tissues and fascia. It’s deeply meditative and often brings up emotional release. Perfect for winding down or creating space—physically and emotionally. Perfect for calming anxiety or before bed.

🌀 Which One Should You Choose?

There’s no wrong place to begin. You might try a few styles and notice how your body and mind respond. Some days you might crave the strength and sweat of a Flow class. Other days, the stillness of Yin might feel like home.

Here’s a gentle tip:

🌿 Let your body lead. Ask yourself: What do I truly need today ~ movement, stillness, strength, softness? Trust the answer, and follow it.

Final Thoughts:

Yoga isn’t about touching your toes or achieving the perfect pose ~ it’s about coming back to yourself, one breath at a time. The right style for you is the one that helps you feel more whole, more grounded and more you.
